To the west of the entrance on the main room there is a hatch with a staircase
leading to the lower floor, the semi-basement, which is divided into three

rooms; a storeroom, a small wine-press room, and the stable. The semi-base-
ment offered good temperature conditions for storage. The first area contains
huge wine jars; some inscribed with 19th century dates. In the next area
there was a small wine press for the production of the family’s wine as well
as an oven for the breads. There is also a special bronze steel aparatus for the
production of zivania. The third and last area was the stable which was pro-

vided with a manger (pachna). From the wine-press room there is access to
an external courtyard to the east. The high two-story east wall was supported
by a buttress, thus preventing it from moving downhill and toward the river.
