The works of the Department of Antiquities greatly improved the general image of the vil-
lage. The strict control to preserve the architectural character of the settlement render Fikar-

dou a living museum and a traditional Cypriot settlement frozen in time. This element also
attracted the producers of the television series and filmmakers. The portrayal of the village
in the big and small screen resulted in increased popularity and touristic traffic to the village.

Τhe Fikardou Community Council organizes an annual festival of cultural tradition called
“Travelling in the Paths of Tradition”. The festival takes place every October and is attend-
ed by a great number of visitors who enjoy traditional dishes, wine, zivania and music.

The Fikardou Community Council along with 6 other Communities in Cyprus
have been selected by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism for the organization of the
Christmas Villages festival. The Christmas Villages operate from the end of No-

vember until mid-January. In 2023, after the conclusion of the festival, Fikar-
dou village was named ‘Best Christmas Village’ in Cyprus, the first ever winner.

The Deputy Ministry of Tourism, in recent years, has developed a scheme to offer people the
opportunity to participate in experiential workshops promoting cypriot traditions and culture.
Visitors can participate in various handcrafts and oenogastronomy labs, which take place at many
Heartland villages. Fikardou, being a Heartland village, organizes, periodically, a variety of such

experiential Workshops where visitors flock to see the village and enjoy the organized activities.
